Mrs. Hocking

Proud member of the English Department since 2007!

e-mail: Proud member of the BAA since 2007 too!

(Also a proud member of the Boston Athletic Association since 2008!)
Bio:   I was born and raised in Dover, New Hampshire, and chose to live in this community for its suburban simplicity.  I love all that Dover has to offer, and that it appeals to people of all ages and contexts.  It was a great city for me as a child, and is again as part of a married couple and now a working mom.
I believe that a strong education is the best gift that we can give our children, and I am proud to be a part of that gift in the city I grew up in.  Most importantly, I hope to instill the next generation with the power to communicate effectively in all situations.
I got my own education first at the University of New Hampshire (double major in English and Communications, and a minor in Spanish).  I then focused on teaching and got my M.Ed. at the University of Missouri-Columbia in Curriculum and Instruction.
I am an avid runner and still run competitively for the B.A.A., focusing primarily on the marathon.  I just missed the Olympic Trials qualifying standard for 2012, but you may see me on the roads trying to qualify for 2020 and pushing a baby stroller.

As a teacher, I believe that all writers can improve, but writing is hard work.  Red Smith may have said it best when he said to write is to "simply sit down at the typewriter, open your veins, and bleed."
