Seniors who will be recognized as New Hampshire Scholars will be given their medallions in the Mary C. Reilly at the start of 4th Block on Friday, June 1st.  Congratulations to those seniors who have earned this recognition.

Cap and Gown payments can be made in the School Store on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays during all lunches. The cost is $25.00 and can be made with cash, check, or credit/debit card.

As the warm weather returns we ask that students review and adhere to the dress code.  Please pay particular attention to parameters around appropriate tops and shorts.  Shirts must cover the entire torso, shoulders are not to be bare, and straps need to be wider than spaghetti straps.  Please make sure that shorts and skirts are appropriate in terms of coverage.

There will be a Sculpture Exhibit in the Mary C. Reilly Library at Dover High School between May 18th and June 8th.  Dover and Somersworth High School art students are teaming up to present an exhibit entitled “Just Hangin”.  The show will feature hundreds of sculptures hanging from the ceiling. The exhibit will remain on view until June 8th. Please join us at our opening reception on Friday, May 18th from 4:00-6:00pm. Come celebrate student art and a last chance to honor the Mary C. Reilly Library. Ms. Reilly taught English and served as department head at Dover High School for 42 years, retiring in 1966. We wonder what she might have thought about the superb art created by Dover and Somersworth teens.

Repeated Information

The Dover School Board approved June 14, 2018 as the date for the Class of 2018’s Graduation Exercises.  Graduation will take place at 7:00 pm at the Whittemore Center on the campus of the University of New Hampshire.  Weather impacts the date that is selected for graduation. School Board Policy and New Hampshire Department of Education regulations state that the school year for seniors cannot be reduced by more than five days.  With seven snow days, we will request a waiver for two of the days because we will still exceed the Department of Education’s requirement for 990 hours of instructional time.  In selecting the date, we also work with Somersworth High School and Oyster River High School so that we can save money on set-up costs.

The Marketing II class is conducting a survey to help determine which social media platforms would be best for communicating with students, staff, and parents/guardians. Getting a good representation from all groups in the Dover community is important. Please take a moment and complete the survey.   The link is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZMZKNHN

The Dover School Board approved Friday, June 22nd as the last day of school for students.  The last day for teaching staff will be Monday, June 25th.

The Dover High School Hockey Booster’s Annual Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, June 22nd at The Links at Outlook in South Berwick, Maine.  An informational brochure with a registration form is attached.

The New Hampshire Higher Assistance Foundation (NHHEAF) will be hosting Summer Boot Camp workshops, led by college counselors, to help rising high school seniors embark upon the college admissions process in a relaxed, small-group setting with the support of college counselors. Registration is required (see dates on flyers) and all workshops are held at NHHEAF’s Concord campus.  The cost is $25 per workshop.

The University of New Hampshire’s Tech Camp has a set of summer programs for students entering grades 6 through 12 designed to increase STEM literacy. The programs engage young people in interactive, hands-on, problem solving activities in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). UNH Tech Camp is offered by the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire and makes available the benefits of the UNH research campus to the community-at-large. The Tech Leaders program runs from July 16 through July 27, and a girls only week runs July 9 through July 13th.   This is a wonderful program to inspire and support girls who are thinking of or are already in the STEM pathways.   See the attached flyers for more information

College-bound seniors are encouraged to check out the Scholarship Wall in the School Counseling Office.  All the scholarships listed on the Scholarship Wall in the School Counseling Office are also posted online. The link is:

The Dover Police Department wishes to pass along a friendly reminder to both students and parents that the use of any handheld mobile electronic device while driving is against the law.  The use of handheld electronic devices while driving causes significant distractions to the driver and increases your chances of being involved in an accident.  The Dover Police Department strictly enforces all laws pertaining to the Use of Mobile Electronic Device While Driving.

We ask that you do not stop to drop off or pick up students on Alumni Drive.  We only want students crossing the street in crosswalks.  This practice is dangerous and negatively impacts traffic flow.

Sincerely,

Peter Driscoll
Dover High School Principal
