The Dover Alternative Program is an approved special education program within the Dover School District. The program was established in 1991 to provide an alternative to the traditional academic setting for learners with challenges. Our program services students from neighboring school districts in addition to Dover.

The faculty at The Dover Alternative Program consists of four academic teachers, a counselor, a paraeducator, a licensed drug and alcohol counselor, an expressive therapist intern, an administrative assistant, and the Dean/Director. Our staff assists students with their social/emotional, behavioral, and academic needs throughout the school day. Our teachers engage students through innovative instruction within academic classes. Our counseling staff provides individual/group counseling and family support. In addition, we work closely with community based agencies to enhance student success in all areas of functioning.

Parent/Guardian Information:

Our students have been enjoying several different trips lately. They have gone bowling a few times, taken a yoga class, gone to the Rye Airfield indoor skate park, and visited a goat farm.

Upcoming trips include bowling, another visit to Rye Airfield, a tour of Great Bay Community College, and a tour of Hutchinson Manufacturing.

Attendance, behavior, and grades are all important considerations when inviting students on these trips. Tardies/truancies lead to failing grades and disciplinary issues. Please work with your children to make sure they are here every day.
